What is GROWTH?

GROWTH is an initiative of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), designed to create pathways to homeownership for low- and moderate-income (LMI) individuals and families while improving property values for LMI communities. The initiative purchases, renovates and sells (and builds new construction) homes in LMI neighborhoods or to LMI individuals and families through its impact investment-driven fund known as the NCRC Housing Rehab Fund. The program also offers lease-to-own opportunities in specific markets (see Lease-to-Own Overview for market details) to those who are committed to homeownership, but need additional time to qualify for a mortgage due to credit and/or budget challenges. Lease-to-own buyers are required to work with a housing counseling agency through the duration of their lease until the time of conversion.

GROWTH is designed to achieve three main objectives:

  • Build an inventory of affordable, secure homeownership options for LMI individuals and families through targeted investment in their communities.
  • Provide housing and financial capability counseling to qualified homebuyers.
  • Create construction jobs and workforce apprenticeship opportunities in those communities, as well as provide workforce readiness training.
